NVIDIA's GeForce Now app now available on Amazon Fire TV sticks
NVIDIA has launched a native GeForce Now app for select Amazon Fire TV stick models, eliminating the need to sideload Android apps. The cloud gaming service streams at up to 1080p resolution and 60 fps on Fire TV devices.
NVIDIA's cloud gaming service GeForce Now has expanded to Amazon Fire TV sticks with a native app available starting today. Users with compatible Fire TV stick models can now install the app directly without sideloading. Initially, the app supports the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max running Fire OS 8.1.6.0 or later, as well as the original Fire TV Stick 4K Max with Fire OS 7.7.1.1 or later.
On the Fire TV platform, GeForce Now streams at a maximum resolution of 1080p and 60 frames per second with standard dynamic range visuals, H.264 video encoding, and stereo audio. This represents a step down from the service's maximum capabilities elsewhere, which include up to 5K resolution, up to 360 fps, HDR10 support, and 7.1 audio at the highest tier. A controller is required to use the service. NVIDIA announced the GeForce Now app for Fire TV during CES in January. The app joins other cloud gaming services already available on Fire TV, including Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon's Luna service.
